STORY EXTENSIONS AND THE AIM BOOK PUBLISHING CONTEST 2025!
As we are now into the last term of the year, your students may be starting their story extensions soon! If you have already modelled a story extension with students in one or more previous kits, then you may already have some ready-to-publish stories. If not, we have some tips for you below!
The following are reminders...
- Start by modelling the story extension for your Kit with students, as described in the Teacher's Guide;
- Once you feel students understand the expectations, give students time to work in partners 10-15 (and sometimes even 20) minutes per day on their story extensions;
- This project normally takes 18 to 20 classes or so;
- The goal is for students to write 500 to 1000 words;
- Finally, we will help you divide the story into 15-20 pages and one or more students (either the author or other student artists in your school) illustrate the text on each page.

Do you already have stories from previous years?
If so, or if you know that you would like to submit your students' creative writing this year, please send Wendy an email at: wendy@aimlanguagelearning.com with the name of the story extension and the Kit on which the story extension is based.
Note: We do not publish story retellings as those stories already appear in the Kits. We want something more creative from your students.
To begin...how might you model or provide support?
Remind students of previous extensions, show sample story extensions of past AIM Kit plays by former students to provide ideas and to get them excited and understanding the expectations of the activity!
Did you know? You will find some readers published by Student Book Publishing winners in our Digital Library Packs ! 🤗
The entries will be judged on the following:
